How to use the red T-Disc

Posted by private, Mon 29 Jul 2019 7:32 pm
Hello,

Do you know how to use the Red T-Disc? It is labelled as "Test plate - Test T Disc Pressure and leakage test, red 00342447" on https://www.bosch-home.co.uk/store/00342447#/Tabs=section-fitsappliance Luckily they have left the barcode visible in one of the pictures. I was not sure if you just press the button, or have to hold it for 5 seconds, and I do not want to try without asking first. I intend on using it to verify repairs.

Hello Tony,

Thank you for your email. I have to be honest and admit that I haven't come across the red t-disc before. I know the yellow service t-disc requires you to just press the button to initiate cleaning and hold for 3 seconds to initiate descaling. I would just try pressing the button with the red t-disc. Alternatively, if you suspect the red t-disc is going to generate high pressures inside the machine, perhaps try a low-pressure t-disc first, e.g. a normal tea/coffee t-disc?

Hope that helps. Please let me know how you get on,

Stuart

Hello Stuart,

I have just tested the red disc out, and I have found that by holding the button down it just initiates the descaling program. There is a small restrictor on the outlet of the red disc, which causes back pressure when you run the normal program. It firstly pumps hot water for a while (you can hear the pump sounds different due to the back-pressure) and then does a long steam cycle at the end. It is nothing spectacular, but it is interesting that there is no information about these online.

It looks like it will do the job for me though - it's an easy way to verify that the plumbing won't pop off after repairs are made, that is what I will be doing a lot of.

Have a good weekend.
