when the open switch is pressed with or without a tdisc cold water pours out until the water basket empties and it makes a louder noise doing so. is there some sort of reset switch/ or sequence that can be applied ?

The brew process should not start until a barcode has been read. However, rather than this being a problem with the barcode reader I think it is more likely to be the main circuit board/controlling logic which is at fault. It's not feasible to repair this and so I think it's time to say goodbye to this particular Tassimo machine.
