Buying from VW dealers

You made me laugh when after you test drive you
said you were ready to sign on the dotted line if the
dealer had offered you a good deal as the exact same
thing happened to me, I took the Golf out on a 2 hour
test drive and was bowled over by the way it handled
and thought yes I must have this car! but when I got
back to the dealer they wouldn't budge a penny on the
price and were actually quite rude to me so I came
home, did a few searches on the web and bought the
exact same car from www.buyyourcar.co.uk for £1500
cheaper! It arrives on a reg in September, can't
wait!

Hi John,

Thanks for your email. A £1500 discount is easily
achievable on a new Mk5. I was prepared to buy from
the local dealer if they at least came close but
whilst they did try a bit, they just couldn't compete.
I almost felt sorry for them, I mean - they have their
margins. But at the end of the day, customers want the
car as cheap as possible (so long as quality isn't
compromised).

Hi Stuart,

I told my dealer that my friend had bought his cheaper from another local
dealer
than what they were offering and he practically told me I was a liar
and it must be an import! then he said my friend and I weren't doing
ourselves any favours wanting the car cheaper as 3 years down the road it
would mean the resale value wouldn't be so good. I think he was missing the
point that unless I could get the car cheaper..I WOULDN'T BE GETTING THE
CAR!
I don't really care about 3 years down the road.

Cheers,

John

Hi John,

Mmmm - which dealer was this? Have they been in
business long?

I wouldn't worry about your car loosing more money
just because of buying it via the internet. That's
rubbish. The car is a UK VW sourced car just the same
as if you bought it from your local dealer. The only
difference is that the internet broker can feed the
suppliers they have agreements with with a constant
supply of orders and consequently, that dealer is able
to offer more discount. Simple as that.

Sounds like desperate measures from the dealer.

Hi Stuart,

It was Silverstreet in Barnstaple. I'd bought my MK4 new from
and they were good as gold then but they have new salesmen there
now. He didn't know I was getting it from a broker, (as at that
point I didn't know they existed!) he was just basically saying
that we were trashing the marque by wanting the car for less than
list.

My new one is coming from Smith Knight Fay in Stockport, a proper
bonafide dealer, no different from Silverstreet so I know it is
just a normal UK car, it's just coming from the Fleet sales side
rather than the showroom.

I loved my mark 4 but after driving the mark 5 I couldn't sell
it fast enough! the interior isn't such nice quality but once you
get it out on the road..WOW! just blows the MK4 out the water.

Happy driving!

John
